It’s official: Ice cream season is here, and that means reveling in all the delights that an ice cold treat on a warm summer day can bring. Unfortunately, it also means ice cream stains on our clothes. But as much as we love being clean, there’s not a chance we’re going to miss out on a scoop or two when the occasion calls for it! Instead, we’re turning to the powerful natural enzymes in  L’AVANT Collective High Performing Laundry Detergent to show us how to naturally remove ice cream stains. Consider this your summer wardrobe saver!

Removing ice cream stains from clothing

We’ve all been there: From your favorite white jeans to your kid’s favorite shirt, ice cream just has a way of melting, dribbling, and landing right where it’s most conspicuous. But there’s no need to forego one of summer’s greatest pleasures in order to save your wardrobe. Instead, let the powerful plant-based laundry detergent from L’AVANT Collective do the heavy lifting of getting ice cream stains out of your clothing.

L'AVANT Laundry Detergent

L’AVANT has created natural laundry detergent that utilizes powerful organic enzymes to fight even the toughest stains. One of these is protease, a plant-based enzyme that works especially well at breaking down protein chains that are commonly found in dairy products, chocolate, in grass, and even in our blood and sweat. When protease comes into contact with ice cream on fabric, it works to break down the protein in the ice cream, allowing it to be lifted from the fabric. In addition to protease, L’AVANT Collective’s eco-luxe laundry detergent also contains mannanase, an additional plant-based enzyme that works exceptionally well with cold water. Mannanase is particularly effective in breaking down “gums” found in certain foods and personal care products, like the guar gum and locust bean gum commonly found in ice cream, toothpaste, body lotions, mayonnaise, and salad dressings. Talk about the power of Mother Nature!

To remove ice cream stains from clothing, you’ll want to address it as quickly as possible. If you’re not at home when your ice cream lands on your clothing, you want to get cold water on the area as soon as possible. Cold water will prevent the stain from setting, whereas hot water can actually “cook” the protein in ice cream and really cause it to set into fabric.

Once you’re at home, soak the item of clothing for another 10 minutes in cold water. Then, gently wring out the item and apply a nickel-sized amount of L’AVANT Collective High Performing Laundry Detergent on the stain. If you need to add a bit more detergent as you go, feel free. Rub it in well, taking care to really work the detergent into the ice cream so the powerful plant enzymes can go to work in fighting the stain. Let the clothing sit for 10 minutes, then soak the item in room temperature water for another 30 minutes, taking time to rub the detergent into the stain a few times as it’s soaking. Repeat rubbing detergent into the stain and allow it to soak a bit more as needed until the ice cream is lifted from the fabric. There you have it: You’re now ready to launder your ice cream-free item as usual!
