For the past couple of years, hand washing enjoyed a very long moment. Now that our lives have opened back up and there are places to go (bliss!), we’re running errands, running to work, running our families to and from various activities—and if we’re being honest, we may not be running our hands under the faucets quite as often or as long as we were in the height of the pandemic. But germs don’t take a vacation just because our lives are hectic, so let’s revisit how to wash with hand soap—and discover which eco-luxe hand soap can do the best job cleaning your hands and leaving them soft and delicately scented when you’re done.
Why do you need to wash your hands with soap?
COVID-19 may have put a spotlight on hand washing, but it’s not the only reason to wash our hands regularly. From viruses (Covid, flu, colds, stomach bugs) to bacteria from food and waste, germs can go from surfaces to our hands to any porous area on our bodies. That means that anytime you touch something and then inadvertently touch your eyes, nose, or mouth, you may expose yourself to germs that can lead to illness.
But that doesn’t mean you have to live in a bubble. Washing your hands with soap is one of the most effective and easy ways to keep germs at bay. The key here is to not just splash water on your hands, but to really engage the soap to wash away germs. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), "Using soap to wash hands is more effective than using water alone because the surfactants in soap lift soil and microbes from skin, and people tend to scrub hands more thoroughly when using soap, which further removes germs.” 2,3,7,8.
And while you may be tempted to reach for antibacterial soap to really “kill” germs, you’re better off reaching for natural hand soap made with non toxic, plant-based ingredients, like L’AVANT Collective High Performing Hand Soap. That’s because, according to the CDC, “To date, studies have shown that there is no added health benefit for consumers (this does not include professionals in the healthcare setting) using soaps containing antibacterial ingredients compared with using plain soap 9, 10. As a result, FDA issued a final rule in September 2016 that 19 ingredients in common ‘antibacterial’ soaps, including triclosan, were no more effective than non-antibacterial soap and water and thus these products are no longer able to be marketed to the general public. This rule does not affect hand sanitizers, wipes, or antibacterial products used in healthcare settings.”
L’AVANT non toxic hand soap is safe for your hands, your health, and your family, but it still works beautifully to wash away germs and dirt while leaving your hands feeling soft (thanks to powerful moisturizing ingredients like aloe vera and glycerin) and moisturized.
The secret? A combination of powerful plant-based ingredients and a hand-washing method you’ll want to memorize.
The only hand-washing method you’ll need
While it may be tempting to turn on the hot water and zip hands in and out of it, the CDC has simple routine that takes less than a minute, but delivers results that count.
First, turn on the tap to lukewarm water. This will prevent irritating dry, cracked, or inflamed skin.
Next, wet your hands and pump L’AVANT Collective linen scented hand soap into your palm. Turn off the tap to conserve water.
Rub your hands together to activate this clean hand soap, lathering between your fingers, the backs of hands, and under your fingernails to really get rid of dirt and germs.
Do this for at LEAST 20 seconds. We like the trick of singing “Happy Birthday” twice, but you may have your own jam!
Turn the tap back on and rinse your hands well under the clean, running water.
Gently at your hands dry or air dry them. Now. Get out there, go to all the places, and keep yourself and your loved ones healthy by thoroughly washing hands with moisturizing natural hand soap.
Once your hands have been thoroughly washed with L’AVANT’s luxury hand soap, you can enjoy the delicate lingering scent of Fresh Linen—and you’ll understand why it’s a customer favorite!
