Have you tried wearing clothing made from Bamboo? It is time that you meet our latest obsession. We recently discovered loungewear from Faceplant Dreams and now it is all we want to wear. This means we also needed to understand how to wash and care for Bamboo fabric properly. Bamboo clothing is soft, moisture-wicking, antibacterial, and eco-friendly. To keep the soft, smooth feeling of bamboo fabric, we put together this guide for how to clean and care for bamboo clothes and fabrics in partnership with our favorite Bamboo products, Faceplant Dreams.

Machine Wash Bamboo Clothes

Bamboo fabrics are naturally gentle on your skin and the planet. They’re breathable, moisture-wicking, and have that dreamy softness you’ll never want to take off. The fabric is naturally odor-resistant, but eventually, it will need to be laundered!

Here are a few tips on how to care for them:

Turn the item inside out and wash on cold using a gentle cycle.

Agitator-style washers are not a friend to bamboo. Use a front load or impeller washer if possible.

Wash only with similar, gentle, and lightweight fabrics. Don’t share the machine with denim, corduroy, or items with snaps or Velcro. Finely knitted bamboo fabrics are more fragile when wet, and even bath towels can be very abrasive.

Use only mild, plant-based detergents. Harsh chemicals can weaken bamboo fibers over time. Faceplant Dreams recommends using our award-winning High Performance Laundry Detergent. L'AVANT Laundry Detergent is made without bleach, dyes, phthalates, phosphates, or parabens, making it a safe option for your sensitive skin, your home, the environment, and Bamboo fabrics.

Skip fabric softeners. ½ cup of white vinegar in the rinse works just as well.

Air dry or tumble on low heat

How to Remove Stains on Bamboo Clothes

Makeup, face oils, and life’s little spills are bound to happen. For those moments, a quick spot treatment is your best friend. Simply washing in a gentle detergent usually does the trick, but for oils and tougher stains, it’s time to get serious:

Blot the stain with a paper towel or an absorbent cloth to remove as much of the oil as possible.

Apply a small amount of a gentle dish soap.  Rub it in so it absorbs into the stained area, and let it sit for 5-7 minutes. Faceplant Dreams recommends L'AVANT's Dish Soap as it is both high-performing and plant-based. It is made without the harsh chemicals that can ruin bamboo fabrics.

Sprinkle baking soda or corn starch on top of the soap and let it sit again for 15-20 minutes.

You can gently rub the baking soda or corn starch. Aggressive scrubbing, however, will damage the fabric. Let the soda or starch do the work for you!

Brush off the excess soda or starch and launder as usual in cold water.

How To Dry Bamboo Clothes and Fabrics

It is critical to either hang your Bamboo clothes to dry or tumble them on a very low heat.

Air Dry Thoroughly: for best results, hang the bamboo clothing from an outdoor clothesline or an indoor folding rack. It is best to dry flat so that the items do not stretch.

For Quick Drying: If necessary, the bamboo clothes can be dried in the dryer on a low-heat cycle. Remove the bamboo fabric while it is still slightly damp.
