Hosting season is officially here. If the two of us have learned anything from years of last-minute dinners, holiday open houses and "we're five minutes away!" texts, it's this: guests never notice what you didn't clean. They notice how your home feels the moment they walk in.

So we're sharing the 30-minute reset we actually use before the doorbell rings, plus the pieces we keep stocked so the house smells like we planned it all along. (Even when we very much did not.)

With love,
Lindsay & Kristi

1. Start where your guests actually go

The biggest payoff comes from the four spaces guests spend the most time in: the entryway, the living room, the kitchen and the guest bathroom. Think first impression first.

Clear the clutter, then give every surface a once-over with a great-smelling multipurpose spray. Counters, coffee table, the console by the door. It's the fastest way to make a room look and smell finished. Then head straight for the bathroom (more on that below).

2. Give yourself permission to skip the rest

With 30 minutes on the clock, there's no need to clean the whole house. Bedrooms, closets, the laundry room and detailed dusting can all wait, unless guests will actually walk through them. Even then, a quick tidy beats a deep clean.

Our favorite hosting hack? Close the door. We won't tell.

3. The 10-minute guest bathroom reset

It's the one room every guest sees alone, with the door closed. Clear the clutter, wipe down the big surfaces, and you're most of the way there.

1. Put away anything personal that doesn't need to be on the counter.

2. Wipe down the toilet and give the bowl a quick clean.

3. Wipe the sink, faucet and mirror of toothpaste, water spots and soap residue.

4. Hang a fresh hand towel, refill the hand soap and toilet paper, and empty the trash.

5. If you have a minute left, check the floor around the toilet and sink.

6. Finish with fragrance. A reed diffuser quietly scents the room all night, and it's the detail guests always ask about.

4. Contain the clutter, don't organize it

Guests notice the clutter with the most visual impact: anything that crowds a room and breaks its flow. The trick is to contain it, not organize it.

If shoes, mail or coats have a home, put them there. Everything else goes into a basket, a decorative bin, lidded storage or a drawer. Organizing can be a January project.

5. Floors: only where it shows

Yes, vacuum or mop, but strategically. Floors are worth the time when there are visible crumbs, pet hair, muddy footprints or anything else a guest will spot.

Skip the whole-house pass. Spend a few minutes on the main traffic paths and the areas people will see, and leave the furniture exactly where it is.

Our scent of the season: Winter Fir

The fastest way to make a home feel ready for company is how it smells at the door. This time of year, we reach for Winter Fir: crisp, green and evergreen, like the first cold night of the holidays. These are the three sets we keep on hand all season.

Winter Fir Hostess Bundle: hand soap and 8oz candle

The Hostess Bundle
Hand Soap + 8oz Candle

Our go-to hostess gift, because showing up with a bottle of wine is fine, but showing up with this is memorable. Leave the soap by their sink and the candle on their table. They'll think of you every time.

Winter Fir Signature Hand Soap Pair: 16oz hand soap and refill

The Signature Hand Soap Pair
16oz Hand Soap + Refill

The guest bathroom's best friend. The refill means you'll never be caught with an empty pump halfway through the party.

Winter Fir Home Fragrance Duo: reed diffuser and 3-wick candle

The Home Fragrance Duo
Reed Diffuser + 3-Wick Candle

Our two-step welcome. Reeds go in the guest bath or entryway to scent the room all night; light the candle on the dining table about 20 minutes before the doorbell rings.

Bonus: getting the guest room ready

Having people stay over? The guest room is where the little things count most, and fresh sheets do the heavy lifting.

Winter Fir Laundry Oil and three wool dryer balls

The Laundry Oil & Wool Balls Bundle
Winter Fir Laundry Oil + Wool Dryer Balls

Wash the sheets and towels, then toss them in the dryer with wool balls and a few drops of Winter Fir Laundry Oil. Everything comes out soft and softly scented, so the bed smells like a cabin weekend the minute your guests pull back the covers. Fold a fresh towel at the foot of the bed and you're done.

Happy hosting

The best gatherings are never about a perfect house. They're about a home that feels warm, smells incredible and lets you actually enjoy your own party. Thirty minutes, a little Winter Fir, and you're ready.

Cheers to the season,
Lindsay & Kristi
